The London Corset Company1. How do I select the correct corset size?
First off, in order to choose the right corset, you must understand the difference between the two types of corsets available. (a Steel Boned Corset and a Fashion - plastic flexible boned - Corset).

The London Corset Company2. What is a Steel Boned Corset?
Steel Boned corsets are the best quality corsets and can provide up to 4-5 inches of waist reduction and can also be used for Waist Training (permanent body modification). They are made with strong flat steel bones or spiral steel boning, layers of fabric for strength, and the outer fabrics and trimmings. By wearing one, you will achieve waist reduction, the stunning hour-glass figure, cinching in at the waist, pulling in your tummy, lifting your bust and giving you better body support and posture. Steel Boned corsets are the more expensive of the two types of corsets.

Steel Boned Corsets are chosen for:
  • Waist Reduction (up to 4-5 inches)
  • Waist Training and Tight Lacing (Tight lacing is the practice of wearing a tightly-laced corset to achieve body modifications to the figure and posture)
  • Body support and posture

The London Corset Company3. How do I measure myself for a Steel Boned corset?
Measuring for a Steel Boned corset
Measuring for a Steel Boned corset is done by simply measuring your waist first in inches using a measuring tape. It is important to do this correctly as a Steel Boned corset is designed to give up to 4-5 inches of waist reduction and for those who want more (up to 6-7 inches) through Waist Training (which is permanent), it is important it fits correctly.

Follow this guide for measuring yourself for a Steel Boned Corset:
Step 1. Get a tape measure (if you don't have one - you can download our PDF Measuring Tape here)
Step 2. Stand up straight either in front of a full length mirror or use a friend who can measure you up!
Step 3. Back straight, breathing comfortably and no tucking in that tummy girls... you can now wrap that measuring tape around the smallest part of your waist (below your ribs and just above your hips).
Step 4. It should fit comfortably against your skin, The tape should not be slipping down (it's too loose) or causing your skin to pull (it's too tight). Some people take a little while to get it right. I would measure a few times for accuracy. If you find tape a little tricky, try a piece of string instead. Then measure the string again the tape or metal ruler.

Once you know your Natural Waist measurement (NWM) in inches, make a note of it. E.g. 31 inches.

Now go to a Steel Boned Corset of your choice and click the 'Buy' button which will take you to the Sizing page. Select the 'Sizing' drop-down.

Find your correct NWM in the sizing drop-down (let's say you are a 31"). The dropdown will automatically choose the corresponding recommended corset for you (which will be 4" smaller than your NWM). In this example, the drop-down measurement will read: (26". Wearers Natural Waist 30-31").

The reason for this is through your practice of 'tight-lacing', you can achieve the 4-5" waist reduction and hour-glass figure.

The London Corset Company4. What is a Fashion Corset?
Fashion corsets are made from either acrylic or plastic bones and are light, flexible, comfy and perfect if you are looking for something stunning for a night out or a lingerie style corset for an intimate occasion. Fashion corsets will give your body a beautiful definition but opposite to the Steel Boned corset, it can not provide you with waist reduction, strong body support or body shaping. Therefore, compared to a Steel boned corset, the Fashion Corset top is the cheaper option.

For example, Let's say you have a natural waist measurement of 27 inches.

Now go to a Waist Training Corset of your choice and click the 'Buy' button which will take you to the Sizing page. Select the 'Sizing' drop-down.

Find your correct NWM in the sizing drop-down. The dropdown will automatically show the corresponding recommended corset (which will be 6-7" smaller than the NWM). In this example, the drop-down measurement will read: (20". Wearers Natural Waist 26-27"). The London Corset Company9. Things to do when your beautiful Corset arrives...
The first thing to do is check it fits correctly. All corsets are adjustable and will fit a variety of hip and bust sizes so take your time when putting it on. Some people like to get a friend to help with adjusting the lacing on the first time. You can tighten or loosen your corset at the back based on your comfort level and change this over time.

Once you think you are happy with the lacing, begin to walk around in the corset, sit in it and ensure it is not digging into you. Make sure that your corset is feeling reasonably comfortable on you. Whilst a corset usually take a bit of time to get used to, it shouldn't be especially uncomfortable to wear unless you are lacing it very tightly.
